To My Sisters: Faith and Family

Renew my Spirit, Refresh my Soul & Give Strength to my Physical Body

I have been reading through the book of John and, while I have done so many times before, this time God gave me a lens of renewal. Along with so many of you, I have been just.plain.dead. I am tired of being stuck in the house, I am tired of having no motivation to do anything, I am tired of wearing a mask, I am tired of not seeing my friends and throwing bonfires…

I am tired of not living!

As I was reading through John today, it was the element of nature that stood out to me. I think since God knows I get my energy and joy and refreshment from being outside, he gave me those glasses to read His word through this time around. Right out of the gate in John 1:3-5,

“All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
Creation was made and specifically designed by a magnificent Creator! John is telling us here that nothing was made without him—him being Jesus. Jesus always existed. Only one thing did not “begin to exist” and that is God. Here in John 1, there is no distinction between God and Jesus. It is made clear that Jesus is God. And what better way to have a relationship with Jesus, the Creator, than to study His creation.
“The evidence of modern cosmology points toward a supernatural Creator.” – Lee Strobel

Strobel is referencing something that is a fairly new term for me in study—the cosmological argument. Its meaning…

“An argument for the existence of God which claims that all things in nature depend on something else for their existence (i.e. are contingent), and that the whole cosmos must therefore itself depend on a being which exists independently or necessarily.”
We learn so much from those first few verses in John. Again, John conclusively stated Jesus is in fact God – fully God. Not simply a man, or angel or some other formed being. We can go down a whole other path here on the trinity, but I just want to focus on God and Jesus as one being, the creator of all things. If we want to see Him, feel Him and be refreshed through Him, we need to look outside. To have a better understanding of God’s character we need to connect with His creation—both His planet and His people. Obviously, during this time of solitude we have been missing the ‘His people’ part, but He is giving us an opportunity to explore His earth and connect deeper with His nature.  Friends, just go outside! Take a walk barefoot, feel the breeze, touch the dirt (it won’t hurt!) and sit in His silence outside.
I love how Jesus is so descriptive when teaching (for us visual learners). John 1:48 says,
“Nathanael said to him, “How do you know me?” Jesus answered him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.”
Here Jesus said a fig tree, not just a tree. Jesus is a storyteller and the details matter. This summer (into fall time) my kids discovered the wonderful fruit of fig. They would come inside with their shirts full! Levi would eat them all day long! Every morning he would get up and run straight out the door, not stopping to put shoes on and climb up in our fig trees to see if we had anymore fruit ripen over night. Before quarantine, I knew we had fig trees (well I was pretty sure we did), but I had never taken the time to walk over and look up into the trees. They have fairly short trunks (or no trunks at all) so you have to duck down and get under them. The few on the side yard look like giant bushes. On the playground side of the house, our fig trees are bigger with more room to explore under the leaves. The leaves are big and distinctive. They can grow up to 10 inches long and 5 inches wide with each leaf having a deeply lobed shape. Each leaf can have between three and five lobes per leaf. This shape is described as a palmate because it looks similar to an open hand. We had these beautiful trees all around our yard that produced this wonderful fruit yet none of us knew their beauty until we took the time to go look. Many years ago, my friend and I were driving down Summer Ave. I was driving and she was in the passenger seat. All of a sudden, with such excitement she says, “Stop the car!” Luckily, I didn’t run right into the giant tree beside us. She hops out, runs over to the tree and came back with handfuls of figs. I would have passed right by, but she noticed the beauty of that fig tree and with such enthusiasm and joy. Because of my experience and deeper connection with fig trees, I can now see the beautiful picture Jesus is painting here. I see Nathanael sitting with his back up against the tree, hidden by the large fig leaves. To a typical person strolling by, he would have been missed, but Jesus used these words to reassure Nathanael that He knew who he was! From that Nathanael declares, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel,” vs. 49. I finished up in my reading for today with chapter 3. God used verse 8 to bring out a prayer in me. John 3:8 says,
“The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”
The slightly warm, crisp wind captivates me every time. Whether I am on the beach watching the waves or standing in my backyard looking out at our lake, if a gust of warm wind blows across my face, I immediately feel refreshed. It is free, light and powerful. This image of the Spirit of God in us is simply refreshing! When I stop to actually think about it, I am automatically rejuvenated just by the thought of it.

Today after I was finished reading, I took some time to write a few thoughts down and then sat quietly at my desk with my window open to the 66 degree weather. In that quiet moment the prayer that came was this…
“Renew my spirit, Refresh my soul and Give strength to my physical body, Heavenly Father.”
I am drained everyday. I lose who I am and what I even enjoy doing in the noise of chores, days old leggings, messy hair, too big for my face glasses, kid’s baths and constant screaming in the house. But, it amazes me every time I sit down with God, whether five minutes or 30, how much I feel better. I just have to make it a priority.  So friends, take your Bible, go outside to read and then just sit and listen. You will be surprised what you hear, feel and see.

I have added some verses that have helped me and hopefully will bring you some encouragement as well.

Renew my spirit

Isaiah 46:4, “even to your old age I am he, and to gray hairs I will carry you. I have made, and I will bear; I will carry and will save.”
Exodus 15:2, “The Lord is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation; this is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will exalt him.”
Matthew 6:33, “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
Isaiah 40:31, “but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”
1 Corinthians 16:13-14, “Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.”
Romans 15:13, “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.”
Romans 8:1, “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”
Romans 8:22-23, “For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. 23 And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.”

Refresh my soul

Luke 12:27, “Consider how the wild flowers grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.”
Psalm 23:3, “He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.”
Jeremiah 31:25, “For I will satisfy the weary soul, and every languishing soul I will replenish.”
2 Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”
Psalm 23:4, “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”
Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare[a] and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

And give strength to my physical body

Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”
1 Corinthians 10:31, “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”
Proverbs 25:27-28,  It is not good to eat much honey, nor is it glorious to seek one’s own glory. A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls.”
Daniel 1:12, “Test your servants for ten days; let us be given vegetables to eat and water to drink.”

Take some time to dive deeper into His word. Choose a verse or two above and explore all around it.

Love you friends, Kristina

Sometimes I get so narrowly focused on the kids th Sometimes I get so narrowly focused on the kids that tell her to "hurry up" or "go already" that I miss the ones that step in to help. From the moment we heard about the possibility of a diagnosis I knew Matt and I alone couldn't protect her. Obviously God had to step in and place people in her path to help. I have prayed along the way for others to help guide Mia, step in when needed and give comfort when we can't. Thank you for this sweet family of kids that helped Mia and her classmates all day today!

Not sure he landed it? But getting close!! Not sure he landed it? But getting close!!
This past weekend we celebrated Mia's birthday at This past weekend we celebrated Mia's birthday at the Great Wolf Lodge. There was this single person slide where you step inside a green tube with a clear door that closes around you to seal you in. The operator counts down from 3 and the floor drops out from below sending you down the steep drop and down the slide. Mia kept watching typical peers and her siblings do the slide all day. She was asking every time to go get in that line to do it. I couldn't bring myself to say yes. What if she doesn't understand what is happening? What if she freaks out because she didn't comprehend the outcome? What if she can't sit up at the end to get out of the water by herself? These were all my fears, not hers. When we were about to leave her daddy made the choice to take her up with her 2 siblings and let her go down this slide. She stepped into the tube and quickly decided against it. She opted for the 2nd scariest slide in the place and had a blast going down. She was able to make that choice, choose which one she was comfortable with and at the bottom sat up, stood up and walked out with a smile on her face.

The point of all this is to say, Mia deserves to have the same experiences as her peers if she wants them. She is strong enough, capable enough and if we are able to provide those opportunities, we want her to have them! In the case of going to the National Cheerleading competition in Orlando, FL with her team from @madonna_learning_center we are asking for your help in getting us there! We cannot do this alone financially, but want to give Mia this opportunity. You can give her this chance to experience what might be a once in a lifetime opportunity for her! Will you join us?

Ways to help:
- Venmo me specifically for Mia's trip @ Kristina-Tubinis
- DM me for her fundraising link (or click link in profile)
- Madonna is selling yard signs for the group
- Stay connected with me here sheis_kristina for other ways to get involved!

Fun, fun weekend celebrating our Mia turning 10 🎉🤗 Fun, fun weekend celebrating our Mia turning 10 🎉🤗
I know I’m a little past time, but on 9.25.26, my I know I’m a little past time, but on 9.25.26, my sweet girl turned 10 years old. 🥹❤️

I probably post some of the same pictures every year, but that day literally changed the course of Matt’s and my life.

It was a beautiful September morning. I was laboring at home, out on our second-story porch in warm water streamed through a hose hooked up to our kitchen sink. Matt had gone to church. I stayed home.

And then I called him and said, “You need to come home.”

Labor was progressing, and before long, our Mia was here.

Mia’s birth—just like her life—has been eye-opening, educational, refining, powerful, and so incredibly God-driven. She has given me a passion and a wisdom I’m not sure I could have learned any other way.

I learned more through bringing her into this world and through these ten years of being her mom than I ever could have imagined.

That September morning changed everything.

And ten years later, I’m still learning from her. ❤️

Happy 10th birthday, sweet girl.

May 10 bring you even more life, love, laughter, music, and—of course—SWIMMING! 🏊‍♀️😂❤️

We love you, Mia. Here’s to double digits. 🦋
